How to Use Discovery Ads Right

How do I choose the right products?

Select the right products to advertise based on your business goals:


  1. Grow sales 

Focus on products with high sales potential (e.g. best-selling products, products with ongoing promotions, recommended products*).


  1. Boost profit

Focus on bestsellers, especially those with high profit margin.


  1. Increase exposure of new products

Choose new products to boost their exposure and test their market potential.


*Tip: 

  1. Shopee Ads' product selector constantly processes the available data to identify and recommend products that have high sales potential when advertised. 
  2. When creating ads on Seller Centre, prioritise advertising the recommended products highlighted with "Best Selling", "Good ROAS" or "Top Searched" tags.

What is Auto Optimisation? 

With Auto Optimisation, Shopee manages the bid prices for each Discovery Ads display location, so you no longer have to do so on your own. 

  1. Shopee will dynamically adjust your bid price based on your real time ad's performance to ensure a healthy Return on Investment (ROAS) for your ad. 
  2. Use Auto Optimisation if you are new to Discovery Ads or do not want the hassle of manually optimising your ads.


What should I set for my bid price, budget and time length?

  1. If you would like to increase your daily orders significantly, we suggest setting up Discovery Ads for at least 40 products 
  2. Discovery Ads do not have a budget or time limit by default. Keep these settings if you would like your ad to have sustained exposure.
  3. You can select “Set Budget” using Daily Budget or Total Budget to manage ad cost.
  4. Set a daily budget between RM2-4
  5. To grow your sales, check your ads after 5-7 days and increase the daily budget for ads that perform well
  6. You can select “Set Start/End Date” if you have a specific duration in mind for your ad campaign (e.g. advertising during festive period).
  7. If you are setting bid prices manually:
  8. Set the minimum bid price of RM0.07 per click if you are new to Discovery Ads, review ad performance and increase the bid price if you want more ad traffic
  9. Use the suggested bid price for better ad exposure


What is premium rate and how should I set it? 

  1. Premium rate allows you to increase bid price(s) for each display location during set up to obtain better ad traffic.
  2. For example, if your bid price is RM0.10 for You May Also Like and your premium rate is 50%, the final bid price for You May Also Like is RM0.15 based on the formula RM0.10 x (100% + 50%).
  3. Note that if you are creating Discovery Ads using Shopee app, premium rate will not be available. Instead, you will be able to set the same preferred bid price for all the chosen products per display location .
  4. Set a competitive premium rate if the advertised product(s) has high selling potential and high profit margin.
  5. If unsure, you can always leave the premium rate as 0%. Review your performance after 2 weeks and increase bid price for more traffic if performance is good.


How should I review and optimise my Discovery Ads? 

  1. Let your ads run for 7-10 days first
  2. For ads that are doing well (e.g. have conversions and acceptable ROAS), double or triple the daily budget.
  3. For ads that do not have any conversions after 100 clicks:
  4. If your ad is on Auto Optimisation mode, switch it off and use manual mode if you wish to continue promoting the product.
  5. If your ad is on Manual mode, you can consider increasing the bid prices to get more exposure or switching it off
  6. Check your ads every 1-2 weeks subsequently
  7. Set budget to unlimited for ads with good performance so as not to limit the amount of sales you can get
  8. If you're using Discovery Ads in manual mode:
  9. Increase the bid prices for ads with conversions and good ROAS to get more traffic and sales
  10. Lower the bid prices for ads where the Average Cost of Goods Sold (ACOS) has exceeded your product’s profit margin, or switch off the ad
  11. Find your product’s ACOS in the Product Statistics section of the Discovery Ads homepage
  12. Optimise your bidding automatically on major campaign days (e.g. 8.8, 9.9, etc.) to ensure that your ads remain competitive and are displayed to shoppers throughout the day
  13. Go to Shop Level Settings

  1. Click "Turn On" for "Campaign Day Bid Price Optimisation" Setting
  2. Note that this setting will also apply for your Product Search Ads
